ANANDA DAS

Artist

Ananda Das was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, he is globally renowned Indian artist and he is a son of eminent artist Lakshmi Narayan Das, was his first mentor, and trained under his father’s guidance in his early career. He began his formal training at the Bengal School of Arts at the tender age of 14. At the age of 18, he decided to experiment with his art on his own, developing a unique style that earned him several awards, including he achieved multiple gold medals. He is also a teacher and facilitator, and his work is featured in many public and private collections both in India and abroad.

Das worked with various mediums such as, watercolours, acrylics, oils, charcoals, and mixed media. His works are primarily realistic and figurative, with the "Rickshaw Puller", He uses the rickshaw to show the balance between people and their work, highlighting how purpose and quiet strength go hand in hand. The moving feet and wheels show how effort and staying power can lead to success. And "Varanasi" series being particularly notable and also cityscapes, Bull series, Horse series, Monsoon series of Kolkata and many more. His artworks of Varanasi, a deeply spiritual city in India, captures its sacred atmosphere. His series on rickshaws symbolizes the balance between people and their transportation. He also explores how light and shadow interact, using charcoal and acrylics to illustrate these effects. He beautifully depicts the city of joy Kolkata. His art, which has a religious, mystical, and romantic feel, is influenced by global political changes. His detailed and carefully crafted style, combined with his creative imagination, gives his work a strong visual impact. His early canvases are embroidered with the threads of religious mysticism and romantic idealism.

Later, he starts in semi-abstract style that evokes a sense of joy and energy with vibrant colour palette and explores colour and texture. Each original piece features layers of rich, colourful brushstrokes that seem to dance across the canvas. He experimented with bold hues like crimson red, emerald green, and sapphire blue balanced with warm neutrals. The thick paint creates a tactile, multi-dimensional surface that makes each painting come alive.
