Animesh Biswas was born in West Bengal,1971 and he is one of the well-known Indian emerging artists. He studied Diploma in painting from Swar Sangam, Kolkata, under the guidance of renowned artist and Professor Gopal Sanyal. Biswas’s inspirations are varied and include the unique paintings of Rabindranath Tagore, the modern Indian art pioneer Nandalal Bose, and famous artists like Jamini Roy and Ramananda Bandopadhyay. He is also inspired by the well-known Western artist, Vincent Van Gogh.
Biswas creates brightly coloured images with his unique take on Kalighat scroll paintings. Filled with striking and sad human figures, his paintings open a window to a mystical world. He has gained a lot of praise for his unique way of painting slim, sad-looking figures against bright orange-red backgrounds. His art is influenced by traditional Bengali scroll paintings, often featuring traditional designs and patterns, such as, flora and fauna and also uses of birds. Using acrylic paint, he restricts his palette to a very few colours, but still achieves surprisingly varied effects. His canvas features modest colours, soft lines, simple compositions, and decorative textures, all highlighted by striking human characters. He often uses contrasting colours like red and blue or orange and violet, which enhance the overall effect when placed together. The sandy texture he uses gives his paintings a granular look, allowing viewers to notice various forms of texture. Biswas’s use of drip effects in the background and the satin-like finish on the characters' clothing are fascinating. Viewers are also captivated by his striking use of red. The different shades of red stand out and are impressive on their own.
Biswas has quickly become well-known. His paintings have been bought by people in India and other countries. His work has been shown in galleries, collections, and art museums in India, the USA, Switzerland, Singapore, and Dubai.
