Arunima Sanyal is born in 1981, is a prominent contemporary Indian artist known for her vibrant and expressive paintings. She holds a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts in 2005 and Master degree in Fine Arts in 2007 from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Throughout her career, she has participated many art exhibitions across India and received several awards and scholarships in recognition of her artistic achievements.
According to the artist, creativity depends on being stimulated by something. For her, society and changes in people's lives are what inspire her. Her paintings have both deep, thoughtful elements and poetic qualities. They also have a theatrical feel. Sometimes her work is broken into pieces, and other times it's whole, but it always tries to explore new ideas about space in a dramatic way.
Sanyal says, "My intention is to interpret the world through metaphor, either protesting against or sublimating the wounds of social conditions, and bringing together the past and the present, the known and the unknown." Her works are figurative, especially nudes and uses flat colours with bright colours. Her work’s style and technique similar to renowned artist Manjit Bawa’s artworks. She primarily uses acrylics as a medium.
