Ashis Kabasi was born in Kolkata, 1965. He is a twin brother of Debashis Kabasi, at their early age, they both are diagnosed with deaf- mutism. Ashis Kabasi also received his degree from the same colleges, Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata and later, Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan.
He always interested in human faces and figures in an abstract form. However, they both are explore textures and abstract art inspired by nature and continues to seek new painting techniques and surface treatments and despite similarities in their colour palette.
His artistic journey began early in his life, influenced by the rich cultural heritage of Kolkata. His work often explores the complexities of human emotions and the ever-changing nature of contemporary life. Kabasi's paintings are characterized by their expressive brushwork and a keen sense of movement with some touch of sculptural forms. He often delves into themes of identity, societal changes, and personal experiences, bringing a sense of realism and depth to his creations.
