ASIT KUMAR HALDAR

Asit Kumar Haldar was born in West Bengal, 1890. A grand-nephew of Rabindranath Tagore, he trained later under Abanindranath Tagore at the Government School of Art, Calcutta. He was an Indian painter of Bengal school of art. Haldar inspired by Ajanta murals, also done the commissioned imitated painting of Ajanta caves. He painted on mythological stories; created 32 painting based on Buddha, 30 canvases depicted episodes from Indian history, and explored literary themes in art. He showed how versatile he was by easily working with different materials, like his unique 'lacit' or lacquered technique. He also made illustrations for Omar Khayyam's verses. His artwork had a spiritual touch that was admired by both the public and critics. 

Haldar's creativity is endless. His art isn’t confusing or overly complex; instead, it’s a meaningful story that clearly communicates its message to viewers. Unlike some modern art in India that feels artificial, His work stays true to genuine artistic values. His art reflects the idea of a deep connection between the artist and the viewer, allowing the viewer to relate personally to the artwork. While he often drew from Indian mythology and culture, he also engaged with modern art trends. He took illustrative art in India to new heights with its unique beauty and original ideas.

Asit Kumar Haldar passed away in Lucknow on 13 February,1964
