(1960-2015)
Dibyendu Bhadra was born in 1960, and he was an eminent Indian artist. He studied Diploma in Painting from the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Kolkata and Post Graduate Diploma from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. His first solo exhibition on printmaking was held at Kolkata under the sponsorship of Bata India Ltd. Many of his subsequent solo shows have been held across India. He has received an award from Bombay Art Society, and the National Academy Award.
Bhadra's works tell many stories, often expressing deeper, more serious themes. His art isn't necessarily meant to entertain. Bhadra frequently uses performers, dancers, clowns, and circus jokers as subjects. His works capture their expressions, sometimes without showing intricate details, and often set against dark backgrounds. His calling is to portray the human emotions of those on stage—performers who cheer the audience and make them happy while concealing their own feelings. Despite everything, they continue to perform, embodying the belief that the show must go on. He used oils, watercolours, pastels, charcoals, mix media for his paintings.
Dibyendu Bhadra passed away in 2015.
