Minakshi De was born in 1958. She holds post-graduation diploma from Fashion and Art Institute, Dallas Texas, USA, 1982, and bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1980. She has had 26 solo Art show 75 group show throughout India, Bangladesh, China, Italy, Spain and USA. She got an award in varies exhibition at India and USA.
In her paintings, De uses stylistic technique inspired by expressionism, with lively brushwork. She plays with colours and textures to depict objects in a way that diverges from their realistic appearance. Through her paintings, convey and build up the stories or narratives. Her artworks are mainly on psychological and physical states, drawing from various images and conceptualizing her many experiences. She believes the true essence of her works lies in bridging the gap between inner feelings and their outward expression.
De prefers to paint simple processes featuring strong individual characters, believing that simplicity conveys deeper emotions. Her style is influenced by expressionism, using gestural brushwork and vibrant colours on textured surfaces, often deviating from realistic forms. Now however, De’s paintings are influenced by the style of Indian miniature paintings from the 11th and 12th century and also the patterns and rich architectural designs of various Indian temples. she has also shifted the emphasis in her works from composition to textures.
