Naba Kumar Das (Navakash) is an Indian contemporary artist. He holds both BFA degree and MFA degree from Visva Bharti University, Santiniketan, West Bengal.
According to Das, from his childhood, he observed nature and the activities around his surroundings. He has always been attracted to this dreamy world through his imagination. His paintings reflect those memories through geometric shapes. Das says, “In my childhood, I saw many migratory birds come to the lake near my village. I used to play with them. Though they were not very colourful, they inspired me.”
Das experiments with various mediums such as, acrylics, watercolours, pens and inks, and mixed media on acid-free papers and canvases. Most of his works are figurative, depicting humans in semi-abstract forms. His works often represent dreamy or fantasy and surrealistic styles, connecting with inner souls and thoughts. His compositions typically feature decorative and geometrical patterns, along with insects like butterflies, animals, fishes, flora and birds, also depicting human connections. However, all the figures show sadness and are going through some kind of mental trauma or inner disturbance in his paintings. His colour palette is vibrant and bright. All the human figures are filled with different patterns, which are also present in the background.
