Rajat Baran Mahapatra was born in West Bengal. He graduated from College of Art and Draftmanship, Kolkata. Also studied Diploma in Photography from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
Mahapatra is highly influenced by nature from his surroundings, he mainly features the animals, birds, fishes, geometrical patterns, nature (landscape) and also humans in his artworks. He uses of oils, acrylics, and watercolours along with huge canvases and various textures. His colour palette is bright and vibrant. He has participated many art exhibitions and more that 25 solos exhibitions in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata and also in workshops.
