SUBRATA DEY

Artist

(Born-1979)

Subrata Dey was born in Agartala, Tripura, 1979. He is a young Indian artist. Throughout his career, he holds BFA, MFA and PhD degrees in art.

Dey’s works reveal the extraordinary side of ordinary things. He often features everyday objects like a closet, wooden furniture, fruits, and insects. He arranges these items so they interact in a way that feels unusual or dreamlike. There is a hint of the unconscious in these relationships, making the objects seem more than just real-life items. The surreal aspects are subtly hinted at rather than directly explained, allowing viewers to interpret the connections between the objects themselves.

Dey, inspired by surrealism, creates compositions that reflect a dreamy and fantastical world with deep messages, such as 'Appreciation in the Third World,' which is a prime example of his work. His art is realistic and figurative, primarily using acrylics with a bright colour palette. He also depicts everyday life. Dey has a unique style in his application of colours, and his colour palette is both subtle and bright.
