Sukanta Chowdhury was born in West Bengal, he is a young Indian sculptor. He studied Bachelor of Visual Arts from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, 2007.
Chowdhury’s sculptures look at how different postures and poses can express emotions. He created with brass, bronze, and wood, these simple yet powerful works show a single figure on a solid, earthy base, either deep in thought or reaching towards the sky. His works depicted a new ideas that expand our imagination. He turns a simple fruit seller into a central figure who draws people's attention. The seller’s strong desire to attract buyers and see beyond others is captured by the artist with a powerful pair of eyes and two mouths. He has experimented with various mediums varying from wood, bronze, glass, glass, metal, stone. His mediums are identical but his forms are totally new.
Chowdhury has participated in solo and group exhibitions in India and has received an award for his work.
